Volvo buyers search by number far more than by model, because the same component is shared across model years and platforms. This guide covers how the numbers are structured, which components come up most in trade orders, and how to confirm fitment.
How Volvo part numbers are structured
Volvo numbers are numeric and are usually quoted as a continuous string — 8 digits for most contemporary components. The practical consequence for buyers is that the number is short enough to be mistyped, and one wrong digit produces a plausible-looking but incorrect match.
Two habits prevent most errors:
- Type the number into the search field rather than retyping it into a message — copy and paste eliminates transposition errors.
- Where a listing shows interchangeable numbers, note both. Volvo revises parts, and a number you stocked last year may have been superseded.
The components ordered most often
Across the Volvo listings we hold, trade orders cluster into a small number of systems. The examples below are live catalogue entries — click through to see the current quality options.
Braking
- 31400569 — Brake Disc (Front) — front disc, a high-turnover service item.
- 32276932 — Brake Pad (Front) — front pad set, ordered in pairs of axles in most workshops.
Suspension and steering
- 31277462 — Control Arm (Right, Front) and 31277463 — Control Arm (Left, Front) — front control arms, handed, commonly replaced as a pair.
- 31340322 — Shock Absorber (Right, Front) and 31340323 — Shock Absorber (Left, Front) — front shock absorbers, likewise handed.
- 31360581 — Bushing — suspension bushings, low-cost items that are frequently forgotten on an order.
Cooling
- 31293303 — Water Pump — replaced together with the timing service on most schedules.
- 31368059 — Radiator — ordered with hoses and coolant tanks as a group.
Engine and drivetrain
- 1275810 — Oil Filter, 30630752 — Cabin Air Filter and 30745344 — Air Filter — the standard filter set, usually bought in quantity.
- 30680474 — Engine Mount — engine mounts, a common source of vibration complaints.
Electronics and sensors
- 31362355 — Sensor (ABS, Rear Wheel) — ABS wheel sensors, diagnosing faults that appear as brake warnings.
- 31380995 — Sensor (Oxygen O2, Front) — oxygen sensors, replaced in response to emissions or fuel-trim codes.
- 31316335 — Sensor (Oil Level) — oil level sensors.
Body and exterior parts
Front and rear end components — bumper covers, brackets, grilles, shields, mirror glass and lights — make up a large share of the Volvo listings we hold. Two notes that save trouble on these parts:
- Handed parts must be ordered by side. Left and right are different numbers. Examples: 30698131 — Cover (Front Bumper Tow Hook Cover) and its rear counterpart, 30678965 — Shield (Rear Bumper, Lower).
- Finish matters as much as fit. Trim and cover parts are often colour-specific. Tell us the finish you need, and ask for a photo of actual stock before committing.
How to confirm fitment
- Start from the OE number — taken from the old part or from Volvo documentation.
- Give us the model, year and engine so we can check the application.
- Send the VIN for safety-critical parts — braking, steering and suspension. It is the fastest way to remove any doubt.
- Ask about quality tiers before you choose a price. The same Volvo number can be quoted at four tiers; see the four quality tiers.

Every Volvo listing can be searched by OE number in the parts directory. For a single list of everything we hold for the brand, open Volvo replacement parts — one page, ordered by part number.
If you maintain a Volvo parts list for your workshop or stock, send it to us and we will quote it as a batch.
